You won’t lose anything from saying what you think and standing up to what you believe in.

My adaptation to Peru was, for sure, the hardest. Quito was a place that I was completely in love with. The blue skies, great volcanos and green mountains I was used to, were replaced by the sandy landscape of Lima and its grey skies. My first day at school was very hard. If there is one thing I had learned from my life journey when I first got here, was that I should say whatever I felt like saying. I was oppressed for so long at some of my schools, that I was tired and stopped letting others influence me. I said what I felt like saying and stopped pretending to be someone else for people to like me. For being me and not being ashamed of saying what everyone else was too scared to say, I was judged and criticized for a while. I hated going to school and refused to try and like this place. The people weren’t my people and I didn’t think I would ever be happy here until I decided to join a play. I had the role of an oompa loompa and because of it, I met two of my best friends. We started hanging out

and after a few months, Lima got so much better. I made another friend by accompanying her to “Rosita”; we never really imagined how close we would become. The grey skies that, for some, are depressing already seemed happy to me. I started looking at the city with other eyes and began to actually want to go to school. After one year in Lima, I had found my people and was incredibly happy. To be honest, I think whenever one moves to Lima, you develop a love-hate relationship. It is a city with a lot of different personalities which is captivating and thrilling at the same time. Lima has taught me to be impulsive, in a good way if that makes sense. I stopped thinking so much before acting and began to love the changes the city had caused on me. I met three of my favorite people on the world and honestly don’t imagine my life without them. I had so many experiences I wouldn’t trade for anything. Today, I am extremely thankful for Lima and fall in love with it each day more.
